And a Happy New Year to you

Hope you are keeping up with running during the holidays. I missed two runs in a week due to the wind chill and Christmas.

The New Year's Day run in Free Union is Thursday (duh) at 11am. Details are on the track club site. According to Cathie, the 10-miler group will not meet Saturday, so MA and others are thinking of meeting downtown for a jaunt followed by breakfast....and hopefully a trip to the cupcake store!

I'm thinking there will probably be some people meeting at the track for a run on Saturday, so post a comment if you plan on it. No one needs to run solo.

See you on the road.

I'm a slacker

Yeah, I know. I haven't posted anything lately.

The Jingle-Bell run was much fun last night. I'd guess about 30 people showed up. And Rocket wins for best themed outfit. Oh, and are Peppermint Jo-Jo's available year round?

I'm going to be the captain for Group 2 this week and I've picked out a nice little 6-mile route. Now, if I can only get the map to print! I may just have to break down and pay the Map My Run fee just for the privilege of printing.

Either way, I look forward to Saturday and maybe warmer temperatures. And if I slack off more and don't post next week, Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah.

Now, where did I put the gift wrap?

Brrrr

It's going to be chilly tomorrow morning. The guys will be at the Men's 4-miler and we'll be at the track pounding out some miles. Dress in layers and pull out your Smartwool socks!!

Saturday

The Men's 4-miler is this Saturday in Free Union. If you can, drive on out and help cheer on the guys.

If we go to the race, we're going to need a make-up run....I have to work Saturday at noon, so anyone up for a Sunday run? Let me know.

Me again

First of all, I need to congratulate our girls Cathie B and Nancy D-I on successfully completing the Richmond marathon in less than ideal conditions. And Kate A from Richmond too! She was one of my first running partners...now that she's done a marathon, does that mean I have to?

Also congrats to Pam and Kate S for successfully completing the Richmond Half-marathon...It really did bring a tear to my eye to see you both finish. I'm so proud.

As for the hearty 8k folks....Ellen (Cheetah,) Eileen (6.2), Trish (Cheeze )and MA (Whiz)?? all placed in the top 15 in their age groups. Amber took massive time off her previous runs and set a PR, Audrey, Andrea and Mimi also set pretty high standards for themselves, Amy and Jim had a great brother-sister bonding time, and I did ok too.

Apparently, One More Mile had the shirt I want at the expo and I never saw it. It says, "My sport is your sport's punishment". I have to get one.

We're back to 10-miler training this week and I plan on an 'easy' seven miles with Group 4. I just hope the route isn't a killer.

Next week is Thanksgiving and we're planning on meeting for a run if you're not doing the Turkey Trot. Time, location, and distance to come later. I'll try and post info next week.

Happy running.

One more week before Richmond

The Shelter run was festive...especially since it was the morning after Halloween. I learned that candy is not the best pre-race training meal.

Our pal Dena tells us there is a 5k in Greene this Saturday (11/8) to benefit the school programs. Here's a link:
http://springhillbaptist.org/2008-Spring-Hill-Fall-5K.174.0.html

Next weekend (11/15), many of us will be in Richmond for the 8k, half-marathon, and marathon. I'm doing the 8k and then sticking around to cheer on Pam, Kate and Patty in the half and Cathie in the marathon. Plus, whoever else I know that's running.

But this week is 10-miler training. I hope the rain isn't as bad as the first week, but we won't know until we get there. Looking forward to 6 miles with Eileen...an by 'with' I mean many, many minutes behind Eileen.

See you Saturday

SHE Race

Saturday made for interesting runs across town.

Kenyans took top honors in the Fall Classic 10k. Congrats to Francesca and Gil on staging a new event.

I haven't heard from anyone who did the Screamin' 5k, but I hope is was a 'screaming' success.

I was at week 1 of 10-miler training. Group 3 did 3 miles and the run was pretty with the leaves changing and all, but it was wet. It was fun running with the group and I hope they enjoyed it too.

This week, I'll be at the SHE 5k. I love this race as it's a fundraiser for Shelter for Help in Emergency, which provides a safe place for victims of domestic violence. Oh, and they usually have great door prizes. Here's a link for the registration form:

The route is on my post from last week. It's called the Valentine's Run, but it's the same course.

Bundle up, dress in layers, and enjoy the run.

This week

It's a big week with the Fall Classic 10k downtown, the Screamin' 5k in Zion's Crossroads, and 10-miler training at UVA all on October 25.

Let us know what race you're doing. I'll be at 10-miler training.

The Shelter For Help In Emergency 5k is Nov.1 downtown and someone asked for a map of the route. It's here: http://www.usatf.org/routes/view.asp?rID=97916

Who's running where? Post in the comments section....I think I'm going to get one more downtown run in before 10-miler training starts.

Mmmmm chocolate

The Chocolate Chase is this Saturday , the 18th at Lee Park downtown. You have to love a race that gives you chocolate at the finish.

"All proceeds from the 5K race are used by First United Methodist Church in food, shelter and social justice programs to serve people in Charlottesvile/Albemarle. A Chocolate Festival in Lee Park follows the race. "

Here's a link for the registration form:

In Palmyra, it's Legs for Liberia, a 5k run or 2 mile walk. "All proceeds will be used to support Effort Baptist Church's Medical Missions Program to construct medical clinics, provide medical supplies, resources and training for Liberia, Africa. " Meet at the Village Park on Main St in Palmyra.

The following weekend has the CVL Fall Classic 10k (downtown), the Screamin' 5k (Zion's Crossroads) and the beginning of 10-miler training (UVA track).

This week

It looks like there are no races on Saturday.

The Buck Mountain Half-Marathon and Mini-Marathon are on Sunday, the 12th. All race proceeds go to UVA Hospital’s “Diapers for Low-Income Families” program. There's no official race fee, but donations are accepted. Here's the race form:

http://charlottesvilletrackclub.org/latest/schedule/Buck2008.pdf

When and where are you running this week? We're meeting at 8am at the Pavilion again on Saturday. Distances to be determined--we base it on who shows up and how people are feeling.

I like to take advantage of running away from the track before 10-miler training starts (Oct 25th). Post your thoughts in the comments section.

This week

It's still not determined where and when I'm running on Saturday, but I'll post when I know.

Go ahead and list your runs in the comments section.

The next race is the Catholic School 5k at Pen Park October 4. It's a fundraiser for the school.

The Chocolate Chase 5k is October 18th and is in conjuction with the Chocolate Festival. Hosni was talking about it this morning at the track. The course is challenging with some of the "best" hills in Downtown Charlottesville. It's a fundraiser for First United Methodist Church for food, shelter and social justice programs to serve people in Charlottesvile/Albemarle.

Oh, and the Men's 4-miler training starts this week (10/4/2008) at the track at 9am. CVL 10-miler training starts October 25th.

Shelter for Help in Emergency Run is Nov. 1 (updated, I had the wrong date before) and the CVL Fall Classic Road Race (10k) is Oct. 25.

Here's a link for upcoming events:

Running buddies

I thought this would be a nice way to get everyone connected. You can post your meeting place, time, and your pace and others can meet join you.

I'm thinking of setting up a monthly post for running groups and then a separate post for upcoming events.

This is in no way affiliated with the CVL Track Club or any of their programs.

This is just a forum for you to let your friends know when and where to meet. We accept no liability and ask that you follow all safety precautions when you're out there.

Happy Running
