The doctor cleared me to "resume my normal activities" on Monday. I celebrated with a 2-mile run at the Greenbelt. I have to say, it felt wonderful to really stretch out my legs and run. I think I was singing 'Born Free' as I ran with Amy.
I'm only supposed to do short mileage for the next month. I think my longest run is in a month and that's 4 miles. *sigh*
Anyway, keep an eye out for me. I'll be suffering until I get my wind back.
And a bit of advice--if you ever get injured and can't run, find some way to break a sweat and get your heart rate up. The endorphin withdrawl effects were worse than the mood swings when I quit smoking. Who knew that 15 minutes on a stationary bike would make it all go away?
Oh, and ginormous thank you to my runner girls for helping me out and putting up with me through all this. You really are the best. Crap, I'm gonna break into a rousing chorus of "Wind Beneath My Wings"!
See you on the road.

Bad mojo
If you haven't heard, I took a spill off my bike and have a broken collarbone. Needless to say, I'm out of running (and biking) for a while..Will know more this Friday. Janice is setting up a yahoo group that should be easier for everyone to post. I recommend it. I'll still post here when I can.
Oh, and always wear a helmet when you bike. My crash could have been a lot worse had I not been wearing mine

This week in rain
Amy thinks Seattle is sunnier that Central VA. these days. I believe her.
It was an odd week with sore throats, bad knees, car accidents, and other random things that are keeping us down.
My group of 5 pals runs in the mornings at a 10-11 minute pace. The Kates have been creating some interesting routes that are challenging. I guess it's time to suck it up and end my month of slacking off and running flat routes.
What are your weekend running plans? What's up during the week?

ugh, rain
The rain is driving me nuts. I can't go out on my bike and I'm just feeling cranky. Maybe there's a Bright Star in my future....or at least the Bright Stars 5k. I plan on running in it this week.
What are you going to do?

The 5ks are starting to sprout up
It's been great to be able to shed the layers and run in the warm weather. Spring means more 5ks and other opportunities to see what you can do.
Here's a link to the track club calendar so you can see what races are coming up:
http://charlottesvilletrackclub.org/calendar/index.html
I'm thinking of doing Bright Stars, volunteering at Discovery Dash, and running in the Run Like A Girl race.
As for this week, who wants to run where and when? Can we get breakfast after?

This week
Ok, there looks to be a group heading to Fluvanna for the Meals on Wheels 5k. There is a link in the Tuesday post.
This was listed in the comments, "There is a 5K this Sunday, April 26 to benefit the Syndey Aichs scholarship fund. Syndey is the AHS high school student who was killed in a car accident at the intersection of Rt. 29 and Forest Lakes South last May. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., the race starts at 8 a.m. It is at the Forest Lakes South soccer field."
I'm going to stay in town Saturday and do the 7:45 run. We'll meet at 2nd and Garrett (near the Glass building).
Happy Running

Spring is in the air!
I love running this time of year. I'm not really training for anything, the flowers start popping, the dogwoods are blooming and the weather is always different.
It's time to bring the blog out of hibernation. Let's post where and when we're running or would like to run. Feel free to comment or email me.
This week, CVL will be busy with Foxfield and the Dogwood Parade.
I'd like to run downtown early, so I can score a parking place and then go to City Market and then the parade. Let me know if you're interested or if you are running elsewhere.
***This just in (12:15 Tuesday)...There's a race this weekend to benefit Meals on Wheels of Fluvanna! Thanks for the link, Anonymous! http://mealsonwheelsfluvanna.org/Meals%20on%20Wheels%205k.pdf

It's been a while
With all the commotion about the board and elections and what-not, no one's had time to post.
Let's see, this week looks like tempo run time again. I hope this one goes better than the last one I did. Ick.
Kudos to all who ran the Valentine's Day 5k. Great job Kate, Kate, Amber, Adele, Amy, Susan, Mimi and Nancy.
We need to get together and figure out who's staying where for Shamrock. Also, we'll need to figure out who's riding with who for the Monument Ave race.
If you're running the 10-miler, look for me. I just signed up to volunteer. Sorry, no running 4 races in 4 weeks for me.
Bundle up and be safe out there.

Single digits!
With the temperature expected to be in the single digits tomorrow, I'm wondering if anyone would like to run at 11 or so tomorrow or maybe on Sunday.

How cold is it?
The one thing I hate about running first thing in the morning is that it's the coldest part of the day. At least I'm experienced in the fine art of layering and making sure I have pockets to cram my gloves, hat, scarf, tissue and whatever else I may have on me that day.
Do we have that 2-mile time trial this week? Oh dear.
6.2 suggested you carry links or rocks or something so you can keep track of your laps during the trial. I think that's a great idea. Have 8 pebbles and toss one aside for every lap you do.
You may not recognize me under all the bundles, but I'll see you on the road.

Pam did it!
Our girl Pam finished the Disney marathon today. We're so proud of you and how far you've come in so short a time.
Now that I feel like a classic underachiever, I guess new goals are in order. *sigh* I'm sure I'll figure something out....Maybe more miles at the MS bike tour or faster race times or something. I'm open to suggestions.

I hate colds
This has been a rough week. The New Year's Day race was fast and a bit difficult due to certain "circumstances"--it all goes back to the FIRST thing I learned about running. See me and I'll explain it.
Then I got a cold. Thanks to Amber and Mimi for slowing down for me Saturday. I totally missed Tuesday and could only plod along for two miles this morning. Fortunately, Nancy is coming back from injury and was plodding along right beside me.
10-miler training with captains returns this week. Trish and MA will have Group 4 and I've got Group 3. I've picked out a lovely 8-mile route that will be challenging but a good learning experience. Go ahead and curse my name now.
Stay warm, get lots of fluids and rest up.
See you Saturday.
